We had Ben's first appointment today and we were SO impressed with this hospital. This was by far the best consultation I have ever been to. They were so prompt and professional yet warm and kid-friendly. We parked right across from the main entrance and we were in and out in less than an hour!!
Seriously!
While we were there, the doctor had him walk, run, and hop for her. She had him walk on his toes and heels. She also tested all of his reflexes and moved his bones at each joint.
The best news...
Ben is fine! He does show signs of in-toeing (caused by 'femoral anteversion'), but he should grow out of it as his bones grow and his joints lessen in flexibility. We won't have to go back unless he seems to be hindered by his feet. The doctors said that 20-30 years ago, they would have treated him with shoe-inserts or braces, but that the more current studies show that kids seem to react the same with or without the treatment and that it is just something his body will adjust to over time.

Enjoying the popcorn they gave him after his appointment |
For the 2 minutes we were in the waiting room, we did see a number of other children who have much more serious bone deformations. Even some of the nurses and staff there are former (and current) patients at Scottish Rite.
Sometimes we just need to take inventory of our lives. It's days like today that I fully appreciate how blessed we are.
